    internships at worcester art museum

    Internships at the Worcester Art Museum require a 3 to 4 month time commitment. During this time, you will be responsible for assisting with a specific departmental project or projects that will allow you to learn across different areas of the Museum. A site supervisor will work with you to develop a project plan and provide mentorship and feedback on your work. All internships are unpaid. We are able to provide internships for credit if approved by your college or university. Our goal is to provide real-life museum experience in an educational environment.

    Division: Curatorial

    Title: Asian Art Intern

    Purpose: Assist the Assistant Curator of Asian Art with a variety of tasks. Students will acquire first-hand curatorial experience while working closely with museum professionals. The project(s) will be developed based on the museum's needs and the intern's skills and will result in a portfolio-quality product.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Qualifications and Education:

    Semester: Ongoing program, each internship lasts one semester (Fall, Spring, Summer)
    Accepting applications for Fall 2017 (posted until filled).
    Hours: Approximately 6-8 hours per week
    Schedule: Flexible, usually 1 to 2 weekdays between 9am-5pm

    Division: Curatorial

    Title: Prints, Drawings and Photographs Intern

    Purpose: Assist the Associate Curator of Prints, Drawings and Photographs with a variety of tasks while working with the Worcester Art Museum's works on paper, an extensive group of holdings comprising over half of the museum’s permanent collection. The intern will acquire first-hand curatorial experience and the unique opportunity to engage with artwork while working closely with museum professionals. Tasks will be determined based on the museum's needs and the intern's skills and will result in a wide-ranging engagement with the museum’s paper-based collection.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Qualifications and Education:

    Semester: Internship follows the academic calendar. Preference given to applicants who can commit to serving as an intern both the fall and spring semesters.

    Hours: Approximately 8-12 hours per week
    Schedule: Flexible, usually 1 to 2 weekdays between 10am-4pm

    Division: Curatorial

    Title: European Art and Provenance Intern

    Purpose: Assist the Senior Director of Collections and Programs/Curator of European Art and Curatorial Assistant with researching and recording the provenance of objects in the European art collection, including attention to the Nazi era. Students will acquire first-hand curatorial experience while working closely with museum professionals. The project will result in a portfolio-quality product.
